1953 | MG TD
Overview
The MG TD, introduced in 1950, was the fourth in the T-series line of MG sports cars and played a pivotal role in popularizing British roadsters in the American market. Combining the traditional styling of its predecessor, the TC, with significant mechanical upgrades—including independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and a more robust chassis borrowed from the MG Y-type sedan—the TD offered improved handling and ride comfort. It featured a 1250cc XPAG inline-four producing about 54 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Over 29,000 units were built between 1950 and 1953, with the vast majority exported to the U.S., cementing MG's reputation among postwar sports car enthusiasts. As time has progressed, fewer TD's have remained on the road, making driving and refurbished examples all the more desirable.
