1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

This exceptional 1962 Mercedes 190SL Roadster arrives in Red over Black leather, recently professionally restored with an odometer reading of approximately 344 miles driven since. Powered by a 1,897cc/120hp four-cylinder engine fed by dual Weber carbs, its four-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels. Beneath a new soft top and frame, its attractive interior is accented by an updated radio plus gleaming VDO instruments and chrome trim throughout the cabin. An excellent driver that shows remarkably well, this rare 190SL Roadster will be a cherished addition to any serious collection—now offered with a Seller’s Disclosure, service records, a full-size spare, and jack.

Stylistically evocative of the mighty 300SL, but with a less complex drive train, the sleek, aerodynamic, and comparatively light Mercedes Benz 190SL was an advanced convertible for its time. The 190SL was praised for its aesthetics, engineering, and solid build quality, immediately conveyed from the driver’s seat. Conceived as an elegant two-seater for touring and everyday driving rather than a thorough-bred sports car, the open-top 190SL ‘roadster’ was more a proper cabriolet with roll-up windows and a better-insulated top alongside its competitors.

A timeless classic aging with grace, the 190SL is still a comfortable and competent driver to the present day. The final production tally by Mercedes from 1955 to 1963 was 25,881 units built, about 10,000 of which were sold in the USA. Among the most desirable cars of its era, surviving Mercedes 190SL's remain a versatile, highly usable collector vehicle.
