Now available on Sotheby’s Motorsports is this Superformance MKIII - a modern rendition of the iconic Shelby Cobra muscle car. Based in Irvine, California, Superformance specializes in aesthetically and dimensionally correct replicas of famed American racing and sports cars - with an emphasis on the machines conceived by the late tuning legend, Caroll Shelby. Superformance’s Shelby Cobra MKII and MKIII ‘rolling chassis’ replicas are built in-house, ready for clients to install a compatible drive train of choice. These allow customers to combine classic car style with modern driving comforts and drivetrains, functional for track as well as regular street use.
The Superformance MKIII featured here is finished in Grigio Silverstone complemented by racing stripes and an oval ‘65’ numbered decal. A set of 18” polished aluminum Shelby wheels, exterior side exhausts, and external rollbar bring additional racing-inspired character to this open-top sports car. The interior incorporates premium materials to add luxurious appointments to this Cobra, with multiple appointments of Tobacco leather upholstery along the dashboard, center console, and both seats that feature diamond stitching surfaces. The driver commands this sports car through a wood-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, with multiple interior Smith gauges and Lucas manual-operated switches to serve all important functions and relay key information.
Power comes from a 427 cu-in MPI fuel-injected engine, driving the rear wheels through a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission. Modern-day mechanics allow for an easier-to-manage driving experience, including power steering, ventilated disc brakes, and a performance-oriented radiator for optimal powertrain cooling. The application of 3M Paint Protection Film ensures that this two-seater sports car’s body is well-protected from the elements and continues to look pristine.
