1965 | Superformance MKIII-R
Overview
The Shelby AC Cobra garnered world renown as a raw sports car melding American ingenuity with the British roadster invasion of the 1960s. Unmatched power-to-weight offered raw engagement front and center. A generational icon, the Cobra has enjoyed decades of factory and enthusiast tributes including Ford’s own Shelby Cobra concept (2004). Apart from these modern interpretations, a select few highly engineered continuations translate the car’s original recipe to thrills .
.
This 1965 Superformance MKIII-R reigns supreme, finished in Metallic Blue w/Grey racing stripes and contrast trim. Superformance manufactures the ultimate in rolling chassis continuation cars, delivering a product at the mountaintop of period enthusiast offerings. This turnkey example was completed by renowned Arizona-based builder, Crown Concepts, with a fuel-injected 427 V8 and Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. Hand-laid fiberglass bodywork sits atop a reinforced steel-tube chassis in a high caliber tribute to the first year big-block Cobra.
.
Black leather seating faces a focused suite of bronze-bezel Speedhut instruments behind a 3-spoke steering wheel to complete analog cockpit faire. Beneath the surface, independent front and rear coilover suspension and Wilwood disc brakes ensure planted handling and unquestioned stopping power. 18” American Racing Shelby wheels fill out widebody contours, wrapped in 245/40 front and 335/30 rear Nitto NT01 tires. A forward-opening scooped hood, Borla individual throttle body EFI, and side-pipe exhausts allow this MKIII-R to breathe free. Now sold with a clean title and Seller’s Disclosure, this top Superformance roadster shows an odometer reading of just 4,325 miles.
