Overview

Featured here on Sotheby’s Motorsport is a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, finished in an eye-catching Malibu Blue body with a Black interior. Stored in a Montana barn until 1980, it was discovered by a Corvette enthusiast & then underwent a comprehensive full, frame-off restoration in 2018 - down to the nuts and bolts, to bring it back to its prime status as a classic American Muscle car that remains an instantly recognizable icon to the present day. It was first acquired by its current owner in November 2022, who has added roughly 150 miles since they took ownership.

Mechanical highlights of the restoration performed on this Corvette include a rebuilt L72 V8 engine, sending power through a 4-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Complimenting the rebuilt V8 powerplant under the hood, this Corvette also received an upgraded aluminum radiator and a new fan motor to improve the drivability of this classic muscle car. A refurbished suspension system, including the installation of new bushings and bolt components, also benefits the driving experience of this Corvette.

The exterior features this Corvette Convertible’s current GM Malibu Blue paintwork, mechanical front headlights, alloy wheels, side exhaust pipes, front hood scoop, and exterior front/rear chrome bumpers - key characteristics of these early pre-1970s era Corvette models. Inside, this Corvette further benefits from a refurbished Black leather interior and manually-operated convertible top, a wood-trim three-spoke steering wheel, dashboard mounted clock, and an AM/FM radio - preserving the original character and aesthetic appearance of this classic convertible’s interior that will be appreciated any number of Corvette or classic American car enthusiasts.

A rebuild book documenting the restoration previously performed on this Corvette, a ‘67 Corvette front hood, a ‘66 Corvette front hood, and a fixed hardtop roof will accompany the sale. Perfectly suited for a Corvette or classic muscle car enthusiast, this refurbished 1966 Corvette Convertible is ready to showcase at the next Corvette gathering, Cars and Coffee weekend meet, classic car show, or to be enjoyed for any number of leisure drives to come.
