1966 | Superformance GT40 MkII
Overview
The Ford GT40 garnered world renown in an impressive four consecutive wins at Le Mans from 1966 to 1969, defying Ferrari's dominance. A generational icon, the GT40 has enjoyed decades of factory and enthusiast tributes including Ford’s own GT90 concept car and two production generations of the Ford GT supercar. Apart from these modern interpretations, a select few highly engineered continuations present an experience closer in spirit to the car’s original recipe.
.
As one such example, this 1966 Superformance GT40 MkII reigns supreme. Superformance manufactures the ultimate in rolling chassis continuation cars, delivering a product at the mountaintop of period enthusiast offerings. This turnkey example was completed by renowned Houston-based builder, Relic, with a fuel-injected 5.0L Ford Coyote V8 sending power rearward, paired with a Porsche G96/50 transaxle. Supplied with a registry-eligible chassis number, this GT40 features contemporary powertrain combined with the raw configuration and layout of Ford’s first champion.
.
Leather seating faces a focused suite of analog instrumentation, while passengers sit separated by an ornate 6-speed Numeric Racing adjustable short shifter with exposed linkage. The car’s steel bodywork and monocoque construction benefits from front and rear independent suspension with Bilstein coilover progressive shocks, H&R springs, and 4-wheel vented disc brakes. Cradled between massive Avon 295/50/R15 rear tires, electronic fuel injection w/Borla 8-Stack individual throttle bodies top the all-American power plant. Custom exhaust exits over the transaxle, through this GT40’s vented Kamm-back clamshell. Now sold with a clean title and Seller’s Disclosure, this fresh build shows an odometer reading of just 63 miles.
