1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

Debuting in March 1963 at the Geneva Motor Show, the W113-generation Mercedes-Benz SL succeeded the famous 300SL Gullwing and four-cylinder 190SL that followed. Initially debuting as the 230SL with a 2.3-liter inline-six engine, the 280SL arrived in 1968 with displacement increased to 2.8-liters. Providing a much-needed boost in power and improved performance faster speed, the car remained focused on fulfilling the mission of a smooth and comfortable long-distance tourer. Also referred to as the ‘Pagoda’,  its iconic hard-top convertible design featured a top roof section resembling the unique concave-roofed temples of Asia.

This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in elegant Red Metallic, combined with a black soft-top convertible roof and MB-Tex interior. This example is reported to have undergone an extensive frame-off restoration (2011-2013) utilizing genuine Mercedes-Benz parts inside and out, with a full exterior respray bringing it to its present state. Multiple chrome features adorn the exterior, including bumper guards, roof bars, window trim, and more. Body-color hubcaps and Michelin radial white-wall tires round out this classic roadster's coordinated period aesthetics. 

Inside, seating surfaces wear new Black MB-Tex upholstery, famed for premium feel and longevity. Matching door panels, interior carpeting, and padded dashboard sections offer subtle contrast to painted sections and chrome touchpoints. Cabin amenities include a Becker Europa AM/FM radio system, defroster, and VDO instruments/analog clock. Engine power is sent to rear drive wheels via four-speed automatic shifting and a floor-mounted gear selector.
