Overview

The Ferrari 365 GTC/4 marked a significant shift in Ferrari's design approach when it debuted at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. Designed by Filippo Sapino of Pininfarina, its wedge shape was a notable departure from the more traditional profile of the previous 365 GTC. The body, primarily steel with a lighter aluminum hood and trunk lid, was proportioned like a two-seater coupe, with clever interior design allowing for two fold-down rear seats. Although it replaced both the 365 GTC and the 365 GT 2+2, the GTC/4 was not a direct replacement for the larger 2+2 model, which ended production in 1971.

More refined compared to its aggressive GTB/4 counterpart, both shared the same highly capable chassis. The car's 4.4-liter V-12 engine, featuring quad overhead camshafts, was slightly detuned for better torque and more manageable performance at lower speeds. The suspension was softer, and standard features included power steering, power windows, air conditioning, a five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, and self-leveling hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. With a top speed of 163 mph, the GTC/4 continued Ferrari's tradition of creating comfortable yet fast grand tourers.

The U.S.-spec example offered here was completed in May 1972 and initially delivered to the Chinetti-Garthwaite Ferrari dealership in Pennsylvania. Its first owner, Rodolfo Junco de la Vega, Jr., a newspaper publisher based in San Antonio, Texas, kept this cherished GTC/4 until his death in October 2020, after which it was inherited by his son. Finished in its original Rosso Nearco over Beige Connolly leather, the car features a correct Blaupunkt AM/FM radio with cassette player and factory star-pattern alloy wheels. After the seller purchased the vehicle in 2020, a comprehensive mechanical refurbishment was performed by Atlas Motorcars of Boynton Beach, Florida, in 2023. This engine- and transmission-out refurbishment addressed nearly every system, restoring the car's spirit while staying true to its origins. Now presenting in excellent condition, this outstanding 365 GTC/4 is ready for decades of thorough enjoyment. The bonded Montana title is in transit and will arrive approximately 4 weeks after the conclusion of the auction.

The car was subsequently inherited by his son and offered for sale. The current owner, a renowned Ferrari collector, purchased the vehicle and commissioned the 2023 refurbishment.
