Overview

This six-wheeled 1976 Land Rover Range Rover is owned by VINwiki founder and prominent YouTuber Ed Bolian. The truck was featured in the 2022 Christmas Special episode of the popular YouTube series Car Trek, where it was campaigned on various off-road trails in Oregon. It also appeared in videos produced by Bolian and fellow YouTuber and automotive expert John Ficarra before spending time on display at the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento.

The truck started life as a UK-market 1976 two-door model and is believed to be one of approximately 400 examples converted to a 6-wheeled chassis by British coachbuilder Carmichael in the 1970s, although no records of the conversion exist. The truck was subsequently refurbished in 2012 with work that involved restoring and galvanizing of the 6-wheel chassis in addition to integrating a 1989 four door left-hand-drive Range Rover body. Power is provided by a gasoline 3.9-liter fuel-injected Rover V8 said to have been sourced from the same 1989 Range Rover. The truck is currently 6x4 with the rear axle unpowered, although kits are available to power the rear axle if desired. The 6-wheel disc brakes and further mechanicals were also sourced from the 1989 Range Rover, according to Bolian. The truck features two rows of seating that were reportedly sourced from a 1995 Range Rover, and the area behind the second row does not currently feature jump seats. After the refurbishment, the truck spent the next decade in France with a Parisian antique dealer and collector.

Bolian purchased and imported the vehicle to the US in 2022, where it underwent significant service and modification in preparation for Car Trek. The services were performed by Ficarra Classic and involved the installation of a 2" suspension lift using Old Man Emu shocks, springs, and steering stabilizers in addition to seven new Falken Wildpeak tires and an exterior refresh. Exterior components installed during the service included a 4x4 Labs custom front bumper, a remote-operated Warn VR Evo 10S winch, a custom full-length roof basket with integrated wiring, an Atlantic British aluminum front skid plate and differential guard, eight basked-mounted Hella auxiliary lights, two Hella 450 amber fog lights, and limb riser cables. Accessories mounted on the roof basket include traction boards, an ax and shovel, two 5-gallon gas cans, and a spare wheel. This modified Range Rover is now offered at no reserve with a third-party inspection report and a clean title.
