Initially introduced in 1967 as a distinctively styled standalone roll bar, Porsche's Targa swiftly evolved into an iconic fixture, its airy fixed rear glass becoming synonymous with the 911 silhouette. Despite the divisive impact bumpers introduced in 1974, the launch of the G-series generation significantly expanded the model lineup. Enhancements in displacement, fuel delivery, and trim levels benefited both enclosed and open variants, solidifying the platform's appeal and longevity.

By this point firmly entrenched in the manufacturer's vocabulary, the S-trim brought about enhancements such as reinforced suspension, upgraded brakes, and wider wheels, complementing the adoption of a 2.7L power plant across all 911 models. Delivering 165 horsepower through K-Jetronic fuel injection, the S model perfectly balanced daily comfort, reliability, and enhanced sporting performance. Hailing from Zuffenhausen, this contender for street dominance boasted a rear-engine layout, independent suspension, and a five-speed manual transmission.

The 1976 Porsche 911S Targa offered here is one of 200 Signature Edition models originally finished in Platinum Metallic (944-9-3) and features an embossed 'Ferry Porsche' signature on the steering wheel. This example underwent refurbishment work in the past, including a repaint in its current shade of gold. The car features a unique tan and tweed interior, which is said to be exclusive to the edition. This car is a solid example that can easily be enjoyed and driven as is, or it would make an excellent base for a complete restoration. Both engine and transmission are original to the vehicle, with both stampings matching the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. According to a third-party inspection performed by a classic Porsche expert, the engine runs well with plenty of power, and the transmission smoothly shifts through all gears. The inspector further states that the clutch felt firm with no signs of slippage, the steering was responsive, the suspension was firm, and the vehicle handled well. The brakes were firm with no pulsation felt. Areas that require attention include an area of significant rust on the passenger-side underside pan and an area of subframe damage. Oil leakage from the engine is noted, the radio and heater do not work, and some upholstery areas are torn.
