Overview

1979 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe – Freshly Porsche Classic Certified, 31k Miles

This striking 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe (VIN 9309800147), finished in original Black Metallic (A2A2) over black leather, represents the pinnacle of air-cooled performance and style. With just 31,476 miles from new and recently certified by Porsche Classic Partner Jacksonville, this example is accompanied by a full Porsche Classic Technical Certificate issued March 2025. Factory-original engine (#6890126) and transmission (#7790301) remain in place, both visually verified and matched to Porsche's records. The car was produced in October 1978 and delivered new to the United States, making it one of the coveted early-model year 930 Turbos equipped with the larger 3.3L engine and upgraded intercooling system.

The car spent most of it's life with a single owner up until the seller's acquisition in 2023 from the original owner's widow. During it's original period of ownership, the car was refinished in its factory-correct paint-to-sample  Black Metallic while an aftermarket intercooler and 6-into-1 exhaust were also installed. Under current ownership and prior to certification, the car was taken to Olsen Motorsports in Naples, Florida for a full mechanical inspection and restoration of any issues. Extensive records document their work, which included a comprehensive rebuild of the suspension system, replacement of all rubber seals, bushings, and grommets due to age-related dry rot, and a complete overhaul of the brake system—replacing lines, rebuilding calipers, installing a new master cylinder, and replacing the brake booster. The engine received a compression check, valve adjustment, full tune-up, and the air conditioning system was repaired. Finally, the entire chassis and engine compartment were meticulously dry ice cleaned, resulting in one of the cleanest undercarriages you’ll find on a 930 Turbo.

The Porsche Classic certificate confirms the car's integrity with a thorough inspection across all systems—engine, drivetrain, suspension, and bodywork—all receiving passing marks. The paintwork and body are rated in excellent condition, with only minimal cosmetic wear, while the mechanicals, including exhaust, brakes, and drivetrain, are reported to be in superb order. Optional factory equipment includes a limited-slip differential, sport seats, electric sunroof, black roofliner, and exterior mirror—providing a desirable and highly original specification. The tires are N-Spec Pirellis on correct 16" wheels, with excellent tread depth and compliant age.

Expert notes acknowledge light wear on brake pads and rotors consistent with low mileage. Accompanied by a complete photo documentation, including underbody and matching serials, this Porsche stands as a benchmark-quality 930 Turbo for collectors and drivers alike. Whether for show, spirited road use, or investment, this example captures the essence of Porsche’s turbocharged legacy with unmatched provenance and originality.
