1987 | Porsche 911 Turbo
Overview
By the 1970s, Porsche's iconic 911 was already well-established as a motorsports mainstay. With a balanced chassis and high build quality, the coupe's dynamics masked a total output well below 200 horsepower. Juxtaposed by the manufacturer's Can-Am racing prowess, technology was bound to trickle down. As Porsche's race program offerings garnered renown for 1,000+ horsepower figures, flat-opposed cylinders by the dozen, and proven reliability, a new road car from Zuffenhausen materialized for model year 1978.
.
Weighing in under 3,000 lbs with a top speed of over 150mph, Porsche's first market deployment of forced induction redefined the 911. The new car's internal designation of 930 was quickly overshadowed by a newly badged synonym for big power—Turbo. While industrial turbocharging applications were nothing new, Porsche's packaging and approach to boost was all-inclusive. A wheelbase lower, stiffer, wider, and better braked carried track tech nascent in production cars then-to-date. Accompanied by an intercooler housed under its instantly recognizable 'Whale Tail' spoiler, a wastegate, and mechanical fuel injection, the car's initial 3.0L displacement quickly grew to 3.3L through 1989. Elevating both top speed and acceleration, the 930 set a performance precedent with 300 horsepower and equivalent torque.

Guards Red over Black leather, this 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo is pure 80s poster car. Period modifications and low mileage combine to present a true high-horsepower time capsule. When-new options included a limited-slip differential, alarm system, Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette deck, and sunroof. Inside, of-the-era trappings surround with power-adjustable seats, Nardi leather-wrapped steering wheel, Momo shift knob, and upgraded sound system. Instrument faces rotated 45 degrees feature red bezels plus an Andial LED boost gauge in place of its former dash clock. This 930’s 3.3L mill benefits from extensive updates including a twin-plug cylinder head conversion, Electromotive EFI, oversized turbocharger and intercooler, TiAl blowoff valve, and B&B exhaust. 16” BBS wheels over cross-drilled Porsche brakes compliment 930 SE and DP/Kremer-type bodywork to complete this Turbo’s quintessential spec. Well cared for with past paint correction and recent major service, this 4-speed dream now shows an odometer reading of just over 16k miles. A clean title, Carfax report, and third-party Inspection Report accompany the sale.
