1989 | Porsche 911 Speedster
Overview
In 1989, many of the newly reintroduced, one-year-only Porsche 911 Speedsters left the factory adorned in Guards Red paint with matching wheel centers. However, other colors were available, and this particular example, presented in Silver Metallic with black leather interior, black-centered Fuchs alloys, and a black top, stands out beautifully. Completed in July 1989, this Canadian-market Speedster features metric instrumentation and, like most Speedsters sent to Canada and the US, boasts steel Turbo fender flares but no rear wing. In contrast, nearly all European and rest-of-world models retained narrower standard Carrera bodywork. Powered by a normally-aspirated 3.2-liter flat-six engine producing 231 horsepower, these Speedsters were notably quick for their era, with a 0-60 mph time of around six seconds and a top speed exceeding 150 mph.
According to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this Speedster came factory-equipped with a range of desirable features: electrically height-adjustable sport seats, power windows, climate control, a Blaupunkt Reno stereo, integrated fog lamps, headlamp washers, wheel locks, a limited-slip differential within its five-speed transaxle, a heavy-duty windshield washing system, and Bridgestone RE71 tires. The unused collapsible spare tire remains with its original jack and air compressor. The car’s first owner, Mr. Roger LeBlanc of Montreal, registered it on 3 September 1993. The original Porsche Assistance card issued in his name, along with the owner’s manual, Speedster supplement, warranty and maintenance books, and spare keys are included in the sale.
The car was then passed through several owners before being acquired by the selling dealer, where the car has remained in storage since. With just 8,375 kilometers (~5,192 miles) indicated, the Speedster’s paintwork and interior are in excellent condition, and the engine compartment appears fully original, with some age-appropriate corrosion on the magnesium fan and alloy doghouse. Work performed in preparation for the sale included an R134A refrigerant conversion as well as replacement of the rear brake rotors, turn signal switch, windshield washer pump, and repair of the clock. This beautiful Speedster, cherished for its stylistic purity and engaging performance, would be a prized addition to any serious Porsche collection.
