Overview

The Acura NSX was developed as Honda's ambitious foray into the high-performance market, debuting in 1990. This groundbreaking vehicle was conceptualized to provide a potent combination of performance and reliability, challenging the European dominance in the sports car segment. The development of the NSX was a technological marvel, leveraging Honda's extensive experience in Formula 1 racing. Key innovations included an all-aluminum monocoque body, a first for a production car, which significantly reduced weight while enhancing strength. The design team, led by Chief Designer Masahito Nakano and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara, emphasized the importance of driver experience, focusing on superior handling, agility, and a user-friendly nature not commonly found in high-performance sports cars of the era. The NSX also set new standards for build quality and practicality, making it a unique proposition in its class.

The 1991 model signified Honda's continued interest in developing the car. It was powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine equipped with Honda's innovative VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system, producing 270 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. This engine was mated to a five-speed manual transmission, offering exhilarating performance and a top speed of around 168 mph. The 1991 NSX's handling was enhanced by its lightweight construction and mid-engine layout, which provided exceptional balance and a low center of gravity. Inspired by Formula 1 technology, its suspension featured aluminum double-wishbone components for precise handling. Aesthetically, the 1991 NSX featured a sleek, aerodynamic design with pop-up headlights and a low, wide stance, embodying the essence of a classic sports car. The interior was designed with a focus on ergonomics, offering a comfortable and engaging driving experience uncommon in high-performance vehicles of the time. This model set a new benchmark for sports cars, influencing the design and engineering of future generations of high-performance automobiles.

The 1991 Acura NSX offered here was initially delivered to Golden Gate Acura of Daly City, California, and spent over a decade as part of a local collection. The car is finished in red over a black leather interior and features a host of unique touches, including pop-up headlights, an integrated rear spoiler, side air intakes, and a spare tire stored in the front trunk. Inside, the cabin is equipped with 4-way power-adjustable seats, a rarity for the era. Over the years, this example has been meticulously maintained, and a collection of service records going back to new will be included in the sale. In 2020, the timing belt, water pump, and drive belts were replaced in addition to a full fluid flush and an air conditioning repair. More recently, the tires were replaced, an oil change was performed, and the brake fluid and coolant were flushed in preparation for the sale. At that time, the selling dealer states the car underwent a full paint correction, following which, a full body paint protection film and ceramic coating was installed. The seller's mechanic states that the car's transaxle number does not fall within the range of potential snap ring defects, meaning this car is likely clear of the well-known issue. The vehicle shows minor wear on the front lip, and an uninstalled, unused OEM front lip will be included in the sale. Two extra OEM wheels will also accompany the vehicle. The NSX is well on its way to becoming a true future classic, and with fewer than 8,000 miles on the odometer, this example makes the ideal addition to any savvy buyer's collection. It is now offered with a clean Carfax report, a third-party inspection report, and a clean title.
