1991 | Porsche 928 GT 5-Speed
Seller's Introduction
For sale by a renowned 928 collector, this final year 1991 928 GT is believed to be the lowest mileage GT available in recent history. The Wolf Gan Mobius Anatole Lapine-designed 928 stands as Porsche’s one and the only “sports” car to win European Car of the Year honors. This all-original, 1991 GT has 36,000 original miles and is ready for concours d’ elegance presentation, having been invited to Amelia Island and Greenwich Concours. The futuristic 928’s 50/50 weight distribution paired with pioneering Weissach passive rear steering axle to make the 928 a balanced responsive driver in and out of corners. Pop-up head lights, rear sun visors, Porsche’s first use of a center console, position adjustable steering wheel and instrument cluster, a sunroof counted among the car’s many novel comforts. Its 45’’ steel trap doors, enclosed accordion front/back bumpers, and solid billet steel frame with effectively rust-proof aluminum and galvanized body panels ensured longevity. The model set two “fastest production car” land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats, and more recently, the Risky Business 928 sold for nearly $2m in 2021—cementing its status as the single best investment value as a daily driving collectible in vintage and classic Porsches.
Overview
Debuting in 1989, the 928 GT was a 326hp variant in Porsche’s 928 lineup. The GT weighed less than its successor and was more performance-focused than the S4. GT models featured a front-mounted 5.0L V8 and delivered power to the rear wheels with a five-speed transaxle. Unique to the GT, only manual transmissions were made available. A 0-60mph time of 5.1 seconds made the car a top contender in its day. Porsche halted production at the end of the 1991 model year, making way for the final version of the 928, the GTS (1992-1995).
