1994 | Mazda RX-7

The right buyer for this car will be one who is striving for a true unicorn—an exceptionally low mileage and extremely well-preserved original FD Mazda RX-7 among the absolute best remaining in the country, if not also in the world today. Were this car to be placed on a Mazda showroom floor today, it might appear as though it had been there all along since new from the factory back in 1994.

From 1979 to 1995, Mazda drew wide acclaim for a bet placed outside of convention. The RX-7, a two-seat Wankel rotary-powered sports coupe, rewarded thrill seekers with high-revving charisma to spare. Initial FB-generation cars ('79-'85) glimpsed a different future, where the subsequent FC ('86-'91) modernized Mazda's alternative with turbocharging and chiseled styling. The third and final FD RX-7 ('93-'95) embodied a high point in the model's design legacy, looming as large as 1967's Cosmo—the manufacturer's first rotary production car. 

The FD RX-7's delicate contours departed in totality from trends of the decade preceding. With design credited to Tom Matano and Wu-Huang Chin, the new RX-7's balanced proportions harmonized with flagship chassis dynamics on track to elevate the brand's reputation among enthusiasts in the market for a driver's car. All third-generation examples benefitted from a twin-turbocharged power plant, limited-slip differential, and sub-3,000lb curb weight. Beyond Base, optional equipment came grouped in optional Touring, Popular Equipment, and R performance trim levels.

Finished in Silverstone Metallic over Black leather, this 1994 Mazda RX-7 presents a rarity in fine form. Aft sweeping hood and pop-up headlights, the focused cabin sits rearward on a 95.5-inch wheelbase. Configured PEG Package optioning includes metal sunroof, leather seating, rear cargo cover, AM/FM/Tape stereo, and cruise control. Original wheels and battery cover—removed and stored during the seller's ownership—are installed for inclusion in the sale.  Having covered just 3,460 miles from new, this remarkably preserved Mazda is auctioned with both a clean North Carolina Title and clean Carfax report.

With just two owners listed by the Carfax report, this time-capsule RX-7 shows registration only in New Hampshire and North Carolina.  

"I am the 2nd owner, having purchased it for my private collection from the original owner about 5 years ago. It runs, drives, and smells like new. Everything works on the car as new, including all power features, with the only small exception being that the original factory radio doesn't play when FM is selected, but interestingly the factory tape deck and AM frequencies do work without issue.

For safety and to preserve their originality, several years ago I took the original rims with their original tires off of the car and carefully preserved them. These original factory rims with tires mounted in 2003 (seen in photos) will accompany the sale and have been reinstalled on the vehicle. Also of note - the car remains in my care with a battery tender on the battery. The original battery cover is currently fitted and is included as well."
