Overview

This 1999 AM General Hummer Open Top shows the icon at its best, finished in Competition Yellow. Below a crew-cab roll bar and fabric convertible roof, this truck’s sprawling cabin features Black seat upholstery with suede inserts, Yellow diamond stitching, and H1 headrest embroidery. A rear center twin jump-seat and factory air conditioning add comfort to match unquestioned off-road capability. From the driver’s seat, Delco AM/FM/Cassette audio plus a 6-disc CD changer pairs with comprehensive auxiliary instrumentation. Tactile controls command this truck’s Detroit 6.5L turbodiesel V8 motivation and four-speed automatic shifting, fed by dual fuel tanks. Outside, form follows function to complete a rugged aesthetic boosted by 20” XD wheels, 37” tires, a front winch, and more. Showing an odometer reading just over 24k miles, this Hummer is sold with a clean title, Carfax report, and Seller’s Disclosure.
.
Though General Motors' eventual purchase of the Hummer brand paved the way for H2, H3, and Hummer EV platforms to follow, the original—later named H1, was produced under contract exclusively by AM General. Famously federalized following pleas by then California governor-to-be Arnold Schwarzenneger, the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle—subsequently Humvee and Hummer—was first offered to the public by AM General in 1992.
.
Slab-sided ubiquity aside, much diversity across two/four-door truck and wagon layouts characterized production. While true that all Hummer and H1 trucks featured V8 power, choice in diesel, gasoline, and varying displacement ranged from 5.7 to 6.6 liters. Three, four, and five-speed automatic transmissions routed power through full-time 4WD dual-range transfer cases. With a G.V.W. of 10,000 pounds, the massive 130-inch wheelbase featured four-wheel independent suspension and novel inboard disc brakes.
