Overview
Understanding the 575MM
Debuting at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show as the replacement for the outgoing 550 Maranello, the 575M Maranello, or 575MM, was produced from 2002 to 2005. Ferrari only produced 2,056 of the 575MM units in that time, with just 246 of them being manual transmission clutch pedal cars.
The numbers in the name come from the enlarged displacement of the V12 over its predecessor. Displacement is up from 5.5 Liter to 5.7 liters in the new car. A reworked inlet and exhaust system, along with the compression ratio rising to 11.0:1 gives the car 508 horsepower, versus the 485 of its predecessor. Although, more important than the horsepower gain, was the gain in torque up to 434 ft lb, as well as the broadening of the torque curve. The Other M in the car's name means Modificata, or "modified" in Italian. To that end, the car's suspension, body work, transmission, brakes, interior, and engine were all modified.
Although the differences between the two cars can be subtle and somewhat hard to spot, almost nothing in the new car was left untouched from its predecessor. The biggest exterior visual change was done to the headlights. The interior was vastly changed in the 575MM; fit and finish of the interior were improved as well. The biggest mechanical change was the introduction of the optional F1 transmission, along with revised gearing, and the transmission itself.
Ferrari deliberately softened the overall character of the 575MM over its predecessor with increased damping and softer springs, incorporating a quieter exhaust. Some initial customers did not like this change in character, so Ferrari quickly introduced the Fiorano handling package as an option. This package increased the spring rate by more than 10%, introduced a sport exhaust, included a larger 21mm anti-roll bar in the rear, and changed the software programming setup in the dampers. Three piece wheels were made available as an additional option when ticking the box for handling package, thus making the car visually distinctive from those without the package
This Example
Presented in Grigio Titanio paint work over a Nero leather interior, serial number 139336 is a 2004 Ferrari 575M Maranello model and was produced from the factory as a clutch pedal manual. Ferrari produced only 246 manual 575MM, and fewer than 100 of those specimens ended up in the United States, making the car very rare.
This car is also equipped with the Fiorano handling package, increasing the it's sporting character even more. Other options include 19 inch, three piece 'modular wheels' (up from the standard 18 inch); Daytona pattern inserts; Scuderia shields; and the '250 GT package' (rarely seen on the 575MM), which includes diamond stitching on the headliner and parcel shelf, as well as polished front grille. Furthering this car's uniqueness is the fact that it has 3,255 miles since new. The car has been religiously serviced and comes with full service records, both keys, and all tools and books. The original springs were swapped out for Novitec units, and the Fiorano handling package software still works with the newer system. The car will handle better than new. The car underwent a full major service in April of 2024 which is also when the suspension was upgraded.
Why to Buy
This is a unique opportunity to buy a highly collectible, extremely rare Ferrari that has a great reputation for reliability and durability in the exotic car world. Between ever tighter regulation, and the company's lack of interest in customer manual transmissions, Ferrari cannot and will not make this type of car again.
Fewer than 100 US specification clutch pedal manual 575MM were ever produced. Serial number 139336 is a very low mileage, beautifully optioned car, with a great service history and provenance that just needs someone to take it out and enjoy.
