2005 | Ferrari 575 Superamerica GTC
Overview
Understanding the 575 Superamerica
Debuting in 2005, the Ferrari 575 Superamerica was the final iteration of the 575 platform. Only in production from 2005-2007, they were limited to 559 units with fewer than 180 U.S specification examples produced. The Superamerica is a celebration of the 550/575M Maranello bloodline and chassis. It was the first Ferrari with a power folding hardtop convertible roof. This power folding glass roof, adding a total of 132lb of weight, is made further unique by its ability to turn from clear to dark opaque, using a system Ferrari called Revocromico. The system is driver controlled via a small switch in the center console. The roof was designed by the legendary Leonardo Fioravanti who, among other things, designed the Ferrari F40.
Although it shares almost all of its design with the 575MM, power was increased in the Superamerica over the standard 575MM, from 515 to 540hp. This was done with revised intakes, along with camshafts and revised cam timing. The 575 Superamerica engine has its own unique designation of F133G. The chassis received an additional 20 points of welding to increase torsional rigidity. Torsional stiffening bars were also added in the floor of the car to mitigate chassis flex and reinforce the new convertible design. The Superamerica is 30% stiffer than its predecessor, the 550 Barchetta. The standard transmission in the Superamerica is the F1A with a clutch pedal manual as the optional transmission. The F1 system received many upgrades over the standard 575MM F1 transmission, including a new clutch plate, revised software and further refinements to the hydraulic F1 pump system. These upgrades decreased downshift and upshift speed by over 25% over the standard 575MM. The F1 system is not only faster, but smoother in the Superamerica.
This Example
Chassis 142454 is presented in the classic Ferrari combo Rosso Corsa paint with a Beige interior. Options include the GTC package, and 19 inch modular option wheels; a $22,000 option in 2005. The car has covered only 4,304 miles, it has just 1 owner from new. It was serviced less than 100 miles ago. While we recommend a service (due to the time elapsed from its last service), it presents very well and has no damage or repaint history.
