Overview
The Shelby Cobra took the sports car world by storm when it was introduced in 1962. Headed by founder Carroll Shelby, Shelby of America took the British-supplied AC "Ace" chassis, inserted a small block Ford engine, and re-engineered the car to handle the additional power. The results created an all-American sports roadster that dominated on the track against more powerful and larger rivals from Jaguar, Chevrolet, Porsche, and other more established automotive brands. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Shelby Cobra (specifically the original launch of the CSX 2000-series, the first ever Shelby Cobra built), Shelby of America announced the release of the Shelby Cobra 50th Anniversary Edition. Based on the CSX 8000-series Cobras, their design is largely derived from the original 1962 Cobra’s styling, with minor factory options and mechanical improvements over the original sports car’s platform. Upon their release in 2011, all 50 units allocated were sold out within 48 hours.
