2017 | Porsche 911 Targa 4S
Overview
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Porsche 911 Targa featured a distinctive removable roof panel and fixed roll bar originally developed in response to potential safety regulations on convertibles in the US. While those regulations never came to light, the Targa design became successful in its own right, remaining a fixture for Porsche ever since. The 911SC Targa, part of the 911 Super Carrera line launched in 1978, upheld this design while showcasing advancements in performance with a robust 3.0L flat-six engine across its production life until 1983. In subsequent 911 generations, the Targa top remained, albeit not in the same form, with the fixed roll bar and roof panel swapped for what could be considered a glorified sunroof. It wasn't until the introduction of the 991 series several decades later that Porsche returned to form and brought back the original Targa design to much celebration amongst enthusiasts.
The 991's similarities with the 911SC don't end with the Targa top, both cars also share a 3.0L flat-six. However, the similarities end with the displacement and number of cylinders; the 991's engine is water-cooled and twin-turbocharged, producing 420 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. The 4S variant of the 991 Targa accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.3 seconds, offers enhanced driving modes, and provides a satisfying combination of daily drivability and high performance.
This 2017 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is a highly optioned example fitted with over $34,000 in desirable extra features. The car is finished in Carrara White Metallic over a natural leather interior in Espresso and Cognac and features heated and ventilated 18-way power-adjustable Adaptive Sport Seats. The heated multifunction steering wheel, Light Design package, and Bose surround sound system add to the cabin's comfort. Power is routed to all four wheels through the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control system, while the front axle lift system and rear-axle steering enhance drivability. The 20" Carrera sport wheels and sport exhaust system round out the vehicle, confirming this car's status as a top-level Targa. This Targa 4S is now offered with a window sticker, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
