Nearly a decade on from the M4’s debut, BMW’s two-door-only M car made good on incremental and exacting development expected of the performance division. BMW’s continued dedication to dynamics culminated in the limited release of the M4 CSL. Just 1,000 of the track-ready specials saw production—all sans rear seat and stripped down to offer the best in bare essentials. At a glance, M-performance extras included leather-wrapped carbon full bucket seats, an Alcantara steering wheel, and carbon exterior trim. Under the surface, optional M Drive Professional tuning allowed advanced coordination of the car’s M Sport differential, carbon ceramic brakes, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and Cornering Brake Control (CBC). Ornate strut bracing spanned the engine bay, housing a power plant fortified with Double-VANOS, Valvetronic, and direct injection tech.
