1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet
Overview
The 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet represents the final evolution of the classic G-body 911, pairing timeless design with the robust and highly regarded 3.2-liter flat-six engine. Finished in Guards Red over an Ivory interior, this example embodies the quintessential open-air 911 experience of the 1980s—mechanically durable, engaging to drive, and increasingly collectible. The Carrera 3.2 is celebrated for its improved reliability, strong torque delivery, and everyday usability, making it one of the most sought-after variants of the impact-bumper era.
In June 2025, at approximately 61,055 miles, the car received extensive mechanical servicing at Auto Europe in Atlanta. The comprehensive major service included an oil and filter change, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, valve cover gaskets, alternator/fan and A/C belts, and a valve adjustment. Additional mechanical attention included replacement of the cylinder head temperature sensor and both crank sensors, new shifter bushings, engine lid shocks, convertible top latch gears, and a front condenser blower assembly, as well as removal of the speedometer for odometer repair. The suspension and braking systems were thoroughly refreshed with new front struts, rear shocks, ball joints, sway bar bushings and mounts, upper strut mounts, lower control arm bushings, Turbo tie rods, spring plates, and a complete brake overhaul including calipers, rotors, pads, sensors, lines, and a brake fluid flush.
Separate from this mechanical work, the car underwent insurance-related repairs following a frontal collision in July 2025. Per the Magnum Collision Center final bill, the work included replacement of the front bumper assembly, lower valance, and left front fender, along with associated lighting components, supports, seals, and trim. The repairs also involved refinishing and blending of adjacent panels, undercoating, seam sealing, and careful test fitting to ensure proper alignment, as well as replacement of the fuel pump and battery. Today, this Carrera Cabriolet presents as a comprehensively serviced example of the enduring 3.2-liter 911, offering its next caretaker a well-documented car that reflects both significant recent investment and the timeless appeal of Porsche’s open-air icon.
