Overview

One of just 3,640 examples produced for the model year, this 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster—VIN 2544—represents a highly authentic and meticulously documented early C1. Restored to NCRS standards and retaining its original side curtains and storage case, this example captures the character of America’s first production sports car prior to the V8 era. Recently refinished in correct Polo White using modern base coat/clear coat materials, the body was properly prepared, color-sanded, and buffed to a smooth, show-worthy finish.

Power comes from a rebuilt, numbers-matching 235ci “Blue Flame” inline-six engine (code F54), fed by its original trio of Carter YH side-draft carburetors—each retaining their factory tags. A correct 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission conveys torque to the rear wheels. Carburetor rebuilds, valve adjustment, new spark plugs/wires, correct reproduction hoses, and a Pertronix electronic ignition bring a top state of tune. The brake system has been comprehensively overhauled, suspension bushings replaced, and modern shocks fitted, with the car reported to run, drive, turn, and stop exceptionally well.

Inside, the Red interior adds Al Knoch reproduction seat covers, matching door panels, and carpeting replaced in 2019. All gauges, including the clock and distributor-driven tachometer, are reported functional, along with the heater and windshield washer system. The original 6-volt Wonderbar signal-seeking AM radio has been rebuilt and recently serviced. The restored soft-top frame supports a newer cloth convertible roof while original, date-coded Plexiglas side curtains windows and storage bag fill out collector must-haves.

Accompanied by a binder of restoration and service receipts dating to 1963, this Corvette benefits from a continuous ownership history spanning decades and reportedly minimal mileage since its 1980s restoration. Offered with both Coker American Classic whitewall radial tires (mounted) and a rare set of riveted steel wheels w/Firestone Deluxe Champion bias-ply tires, this finely sorted C1 arrives as a historically significant time-capsule.

Ownership History & Provenance

This 1954 Chevrolet Corvette includes a notebook with repair receipts and documents from 1963 through the end of the 1980s. Previous owners report the second owner purchased the car in 1963, starting the paper trail. The car was then sold to a collector in Colorado in the 1990s, and later to another in Texas. Records show few miles have been added to the odometer since its restoration in the 1980s. With a base/clear repaint, new carpets, and significant service work completed following the last private owner's purchase in 2019, the vehicle is now located with the selling dealer in Torrance, California.
